You can find a full list of the recommended Materials for this class at the bottom of this page.

Diving into the wonderful world of oil painting can be quite overwhelming when you are first starting out, so I have created the perfect assortment of affordable supplies to help get your studio all set up. The West Coast Sunset Bundle in My Little Paint Shop has all of the basic materials that you need to get started, and the best part is that they can be shipped right to your doorstep! Every single product that I offer in my paint shop is exactly what I use on a daily basis in my own studio, so it makes achieving similar results to my own work that much easier.

If you are looking to expand on the palette that I am using in this class, I have linked other paint colors that I recommend you try below. My three favorite brands of oil paint are M. Graham & Co, Winsor & Newton, and Williamsburg all of which I carry in My Little Paint Shop. Although some of the colors carry high price points, please remember that one tube of paint will often last you for many years, so they are well worth the investment if you are feeling passionate about this exciting medium.

I have sourced out the most affordable, high quality Howard Johnson detail brushes that really move the paint beautifully along the canvas. I suggest stocking up on a few of each size as they do carry a nice low price point and are very handy to have when you get swept up in the creative process.

For blending brushes, I offer the Escoda line which are handcrafted in Spain and are truly my favorite brush to use. They do carry a higher price point, but the quality and suppleness of the bristles truly make them the best blending brushes that I have ever worked with. I recommend having at least 2 or 3 on hand for any of my classes that you take.

I offer three mediums in my shop, all of which I love to use. Walnut Oil is an all-natural medium that extends the drying time of your paintings if you wish to have more time to work on each layer. Walnut Alkyd Oil is an all-natural medium that does not have any harmful fumes. It helps to speed up the drying time of your paintings. Liquin Light Gel significantly speeds up the drying time of your paintings but should be used in a well-ventilated space as it is not a natural product and does emit fumes.

For cleaning your brushes, I currently offer Gamsol which is the safest solvent that I have been able to source out but although it is odorless it should be used in a well ventilated area. If you prefer to use an all natural cleaner like vegetable oil or linseed oil, I also offer the Escoda Brush Cleaning Bar to help condition your brushes after cleaning. Please note that you should never use soap and water to clean the Escoda Blending Brushes, just traditional solvents or oils.

You can use any palette that you like for these classes, but my go-to and most affordable palettes are the Richeson Butcher Trays. They have a high edge that stops your medium from dripping over if you don’t have a little container that you use for it. If you are open to a slightly more expensive option, I also carry the Sta-Wet Sealed Palette Container along with two great palette options: the Posh White Glass Palette and the White Plastic Palette. Both of these palettes fit perfectly into the Sealed Container which prolongs the life of your paint if you want to take longer breaks in between painting sessions. You will need to have a small container to hold your medium of choice, but they are a truly wonderful option as well.

Canvas Sizes:

I use a gallery depth 20”x30” canvas for this class, but feel free to scale that size up or down to whatever you are most comfortable with.
